Connect a physical fax machine to the cloud using an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) to send and receive faxes.
Steps
Plug the power adapter into the ATA and a power outlet
Connect a phone cable from the ATA Fax port to the fax machine’s Line In port
Connect an Ethernet cable from the ATA (WAN port) to your network (router or switch)
Wait approximately 5 minutes for the device to initialize
Confirm the following lights are solid/steady:
Power
Online
WAN
Once all three lights are steady, your fax machine is ready to send and receive faxes
Using the Fax Machine
Send and receive faxes as you normally would from the fax machine
The Fax light will turn on only during active send or receive activity
Notes
Ensure the fax machine is connected to Line In, not Line Out
Line Out is typically used for an external handset and will not work for faxing
Some fax machines include VoIP optimization settings (e.g., ECM, baud rate limits, VoIP mode)
These settings are not required when using an ATA
The ATA is specifically designed to handle fax transmission
Enabling these settings may reduce reliability or cause send/receive issues
If the WAN light is not on:
The ATA is not receiving an IP address or cannot reach the network gateway
Contact your IT team to check network connectivity
If the WAN light is on but the Online light is not:
The ATA cannot reach the fax network
Firewall or security rules may need to be updated
If the Online or WAN lights do not become steady, contact your IT team for assistance
